DLL
DLL stands for Dynamic Link Library in Microsoft Windows software development. DLLs are small chunks of code that can be used for repetitive software tasks that more than one program can use at a time. The advantages of employing DLLs in a development project are that 1) code can be reused over and over, reducing development time and 2) because commands from multiple places go to one set of coded instructions, development is making efficient use of memory by employing DLLs.
Povotier requires the installation of the pivotier.dll on each client computer, using the Pivotier.exe installation routine.
KPI
The industry acronym, KPI, stands for Key Performance Indicator. For Pivotier, KPIs can be calculated ratios or visual representation of performance measurements. Visualizations include spark lines, indicators, gauges and charts. Pivotier uses the latest visualizations provided by Microsoft’s RDL 2010 specification.
NAV
Pronounced as individual letters N - A - V.
Microsoft Dynamics new naming convention for the product formerly known as Navision or Navision Financials.
RDL
Report Definition Language.
RDL is an XML application primarily used with Microsoft SQL Server Reporting Services. RDL is usually written using Visual Studio, although there are also third-party tools; it may also be created or edited by hand in a text editor. SQL Server Reporting Services or other 3rd party reporting frameworks use RDL to define charts, graphs, calculations, text, images (through links) and other report objects and render them in a variety of formats. (Wikipedia - 2011)
RDLC
A Report Definition Language file which does not have a dataset embedded in the specification. Pivotier uses RDL while NAV uses RDLC which is why Pivotier reports are faster and can be seamlessly published to SSRS.
Report Viewer
Microsoft’s application which interprets RDL and RDLC to render a report. The are three viewers provided: Local viewer is used by a Windows client, Remote Viewer issued by SSRS and the Web Viewer is used by .NET applications.
Pivotier uses the latest versions of Microsoft’s viewers thereby ensuring that NAV customers get the maximum benefit from RDL features for data visualization.
Software Maintenance Agreement
Software maintenance is the general updating and upkeep of your software after your purchase. Software publishers like Centerline work to make sure your software performs optimally in these areas: 1. corrections or "bug fixes", 2. adapting to changed or changing environments, 3. enhancing the software or perfecting the program, and 4. performing unscheduled or emergency updates.
Pivotier charges an annual maintenance fee for this which does NOT provide support services which should be purchased via a support agreement.
SSRS
SQL Server Reporting Services.
SSRS is Microsoft’s stabdard for BI Reporting.
Support Agreement
Provides access to Pivotier staff to answer questions regarding the use of Pivotier via pre-paid contracts. This is for support issue sonly and not for contracted projects nor for soiftware updates which require a Maintenance Agreement.
TRANSACT SQL
Transact-SQL is central to the use of Microsoft® SQL Server™. All applications that communicate with SQL Server do so by sending Transact-SQL statements to the server, regardless of an application’s user interface.
