My greatest professional accomplishment before Pivotier was founding and growing a company called Serenic Software and inventing the world's leading software solution for not-for-profit organizations, Serenic Navigator.
This company began in 1999 with me, my wife Liesa and daughter Sara driving from Denver to Atlanta to earn our certifications. We drove because we invested everything we had into the company and needed to preserve our capital. We stayed at the cheapest motel we could find and cut every corner possible so we would still be able to invest in hiring more staff at a later point.
The precious certification we sought was for a relatively unknown product called Navision.
Navision provided the core accounting application and development environment which allowed us to grow from two founders to over fifty great employees in the next eight years. Serenic became a publicly traded company and earned industry acclaim and Microsoft recognition as arguably the leading vertical ISV solution in the world. We were able to grow this company because of many outstanding people, a commitment to serving the needs of customers and partners, employees with integrity and the help of many incredible Navision partners and Microsoft team members. I had the good fortune to participate in several Microsoft and partner advisory committees, visit with key executives at Microsoft and travel three continents and a dozen countries as the CEO. This led to a global appreciation for the NAV community of partners and a desire to eventually provide our products to partners everywhere.
The concept of a "center line" to guide me through life's travails was born during these years. Business success requires a fundamental value system where one should avoid being driven by greed and serving ones self interest alone. The knocks and challenges on the path to success require a guiding line to ensure that business success does not come at the cost of ones personal integrity.
Now this new company, Centerline, which further embodies my life philosophy has been created to "pay it forward" to Microsoft Business Solutions, some wonderful people in Denmark, NAV partners and Centerline employees who uphold these ideals. The Serenic experiences were not always positive. We learned the hard way that the Navision product did not always get the support it deserved in North America. We had to fight harder and longer than other Microsoft Dynamics partners to earn our success. We had to fight off both internal and external adversarial forces to continue to win with integrity. Staying on my "center line" demanded that I leave the company I founded and nurtured to global success to embrace a new mission with a new company with a renewed passion for innovation, real business integrity and to fulfil my ability to deliver more to the NAV community.
Centerline was formed to help level the playing field for hard-working Microsoft Dynamics NAV partners in North America and to augment the efforts of the incredible NAV product teams in delivering a more competitive solution for North American partners. This time, I am committed to doing everything better by avoiding people who do not embrace the desire to "Win with Integrity". We are going to deliver fantastic product extensions for NAV at the lowest possible cost to our partners. So I am pleased to acknowledge our President, Ron Summers, a young man who worked with me in the past and someone who embodies the Centerline ideal in every breath he takes and every task he executes with brilliance and aplomb.
If our partners are successful, then we believe success will come to our company as a direct result.
